12. Tasks
Tasks are outstanding items that need attention within a project or across a cohort. They give teams a shared, trackable to-do list that lives alongside the data, so that required actions are not forgotten and their completion is recorded.
12.1. What Creates a Task?
Tasks are generated by Mosaic when there is something for a user to act on. Common sources include:
- Required attributes without values. When a project is created with a scope of work, any required attribute that is not given a value produces a task, so that the user knows to complete it after the project is created. See Creating Projects and Collections.
- Variants flagged for review. The ClinVar Reanalysis process creates Review Variants tasks when newly pathogenic or upgraded variants are identified in a proband.
Tasks therefore range from data-completeness items to clinically important review prompts.
12.2. Viewing Tasks
Click Tasks in the top menu bar to see your outstanding tasks. By default this view shows tasks for the projects and collections you are subscribed to (see Subscriptions below). To widen the view, select All Projects to show outstanding tasks across every project you have access to.
Two controls help you focus the list:
- Task Category — filter to a particular kind of task, for example Review Variants to see only ClinVar reanalysis items.
- Status — toggle between Pending and Completed tasks. Completed tasks are hidden by default; clear the status to see both.
Click any task to be taken to the item it concerns — for example, the variants to review.
Within a project, an outstanding task also appears as an alert at the top of the project's pages, with a button to open the task and a Mark as Completed button to close it.
12.3. Completing Tasks
A task can be marked complete either from the Tasks page (using the control at the left of the task row) or from the alert shown on the project pages (using Mark as Completed). Once completed, a task is hidden from the default Pending view and the corresponding project alert is removed. Completed tasks can always be found again by setting Status to Completed, or by clearing the status filter, on the Tasks page.
12.4. Subscriptions
Subscriptions determine which tasks appear in your default Tasks view and which notifications you receive. To receive task notifications for a collection (and therefore for all projects within it), open the collection's Settings & More > Settings, find Subscriptions under the user settings, and enable the Project Tasks subscription. After subscribing, the Tasks page will show that collection's outstanding tasks by default, and you will be notified when new tasks — such as ClinVar variants to review — are created. Subscriptions are described further in the context of reanalysis notifications in ClinVar Reanalysis.
